Hiya everyone
just a little note to say the deputation went well. Was delivered perfectly by Arlene, a colleague on the parent council, and we all came out feeling very confident after the point was raised about our higher attainments and growing school roll. We are assured that this years figures are now going to be taken into consideration which is a great decision in our favour!
If you would like to read more about our deputation the minutes will be available on the city council website.

We hope we can continue to rely on the support from all of you and you are all able to come to the public meeting on the 23rd of september, where you can back up our deputation with community and parental support.
Together we can save our school!!

This is a message to Mr Robert Oliver.
I read your posting and would love it if you could get in touch with me.
I am on the Royston Parent Council and we would really love to hear your story on the early days of our school.
We would love to invite you to the school where you would be welcomed warmly.
As you may have heard, we are facing closure and are fighting hard to save this wonderful school. Past Pupils as well as present are equally important in our fight with the City council.
I look forward to hearing from you
Yours sincerely

I attended Royston from 1963 to 1966 and then my parents took me to America. I'm still there but remember Royston very well. My Grandad used to walk down from Pilton Drive to meet me when he was home from sea. If I understand correctly from some of the other entries there is talk of closing the school. That would be sad for the neighbourhood-a school is such a vital part of every community. I hope things work out for the children of Royston.

I joined in 1939, just as the war started. We had house schools for a while. My first teacher was Miss Auburn then Miss Chalmers until we left to go to secondary . Many happy memories. We lived in Crewe Crescent. So sorry to hear of closure plans and hope they fail!

My 4 boys have all gone to Royston Primary, and have had no complaints at all :-) This school must not be allowed to close, so as parents, pupils and previous pupils we must work together to make this happen ;-)

I was at Royston in 1937,---yes, 1937; we were in the first classes when the school opened. Would love to visit again before the school or I expire, whichever comes first!
Any of the real 'oldies' out there remember Miss Aldeston?

I am away to a meeting regarding the proposed closure of Royston School. If we allow this to happen, If we lose this wonderful school then the area Royston loses its Identity. It will be the end of our community.

I attended Royston school from 1950 until 1956. then went to Ainslie park. Since then I've done a bit of traveling, and spent time in Europe before giving New Zealand and then Australia a try. I finally settled in Australia, but then itchy feet got the better of me, and I now spend around nine months living in The Philippines.
I'm 65 but I'm a freelance scuba divemaster, and I guide divers around the Japanese wrecks from WW2. so if any old school mates would like to drop a line, that would be nice. glad to see that Royston School is still a going concern. good luck to all staff and pupils. regards ron.

Royston School was my first primary school, prior to going to Ainslie Park Secondary. I started attending Royston School in 1956. My address was 15 Royston Mains Road, the living room of our house looking directly into the playground.

Many happy memories of getting into trouble with the Janitor for playing on the grassy area out in front and climbing the drainpipe to the roof to retrieve my football.

I chased my first love around the playground shed. Sally Kirkwood was her name. I think we were both 9 or so years old at the time. God knows what I would have done if I had caught her.

Nice visiting with you.

I wonder if any former pupils remember my aunt Chrissie Birrell who taught at the school in the fifties? She may even have been in charge of the primary school. She introduced the Cuisenier ( spelling?) method of teaching arithmetic which involved the use of different sizes of wooden blocks and was the author of several school text books on the subject.

I have just learned that Royston celebrated its 70th Anniversary last September and wanted to add my congratulations to all the current staff and pupils.

I was a pupil at Royston from 1971 until 1978 and have lots of happy memories of the school, its teachers and my classmates.

I am a chartered accountant and have just come back to the area to work at Telford College as Head of Finance and it was really nice to see that my old school is still doing so well.

Once again congratulations on your 70th Anniversary.

I attended Royston primary school from 1978 to 1985.

It was lovely coming in the school open day, in celebration of 70 years of Royston! I particularly enjoyed having a look around the classrooms and reminiscing about my days at the school. It was great looking at some of the old class photographs. I would love to see them all posted on this site with a facility for past and present pupils to post more.

Royston is the best school in the world because the work is easy and the teachers are nice and I have lots of friends there, and most of the children are kind I play with Lee McAlinden and I used to play with Gorgia Paulins before she left the school i miss her. and saw her letter on the guest book and most of the children in the class sent a card because she is in hospital.
